Coast Guard Medevacs Clearwater Man From Sailboat

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA)-The U.S. Coast Guard safely medevaced a Clearwater man from a sailboat near Yankeetown Monday, after the wife of one of the two  men on board the 33 foot sailboat,  reported the boat missing.

The boat left the Clearwater Harbor Marina Saturday and the two men on board,  Edward Dunaway and Jimmy Gibeau were due in Spring Hill Sunday evening, but had not arrived.

The Coast Guard located the boat,  as it was entering Crystal River.   Once within cell phone reception, Gibeau told the Coast Guard that 33 year old Edward Dunaway of Clearwater was suffering from seizures.

The Coast Guard  radioed Levy County EMS, who met the boat at a county boat ramp and took Dunaway to a hospital. No word on his condition.

The Coast Guard says this is a good example of why you should always file a float plan and don't rely on cell phones, always keep a VHF-FM marine radio on board.
