Cops: Speeding Driver Kills Self in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man driving too fast while not wearing his seat belt suffered fatal consequences when he crashed his car, St. Petersburg Police say.

Maurice La'Trail Wheeler, 26, "traveling at a high rate of speed" in his 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, according to a news release, came upon slower traffic at about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, and swerved to the right to avoid it. Wheeler lost control of his car, which went off the road and struck the guardrail.

The impact threw Wheeler out of the car. He died later at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
