Davenport, Fla. (970 WFLA)-On April 18, Polk County Deputies arrested a Polk County School Board employee for one count lewd conduct.
The suspect, 49-year-old Jose Baez-Ortiz of Davenport, inappropriately touched a 6-year-old girl at Davenport School of the Arts, where he works as a janitor.
According to the sheriff's office report, a witness became suspicious when she saw Baez-Ortiz sit down next to the child during lunch in the school cafeteria. The witness told investigators she saw Baez-Ortiz rubbing the victim's leg and placing his hand inside the victim's skirt on her inner thigh.
During interviews with detectives, Baez-Ortiz admitted he touched the girl, saying he was having trouble dealing with an ill family member and wanted to touch the victim to make himself feel better.
Baez-Ortiz was arrested and charged with lewd conduct he is now in the Polk County Jail.
