Lakeland, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A 57 year old Lakeland man died after a car drove up on the sidewalk where he was standing and ran over him.
Lakeland Police say that the driver of the car, 29 year old Steven Statterfield, lost control of his Nissan Sentra and hit Steven Higgins as he was waiting for the light to change at the corner of Beacon Road and Lincoln Avenue. The car then continued through the intersection before it crashed into a house.
Higgins was taken to Lakeland Regional where he died from his injuries. Statterfield was not injured.
Police say no charges have been filed yet, but this is still an open case and the Lakeland Police Traffic Homicide team is investigating.
