St. Petersburgh, Fla. (970 WFLA)- Detectives have arrested a man they say tried to rape a 50 year old St. Petersburg woman.
39 year Joseph Simpson, who police say is homeless, is accused of sexually battering, and seriously injuring the woman behind a business in the 6000 block of 46th Avenue North on March 30th.
Detectives combed through area surveillance video and was able to identify Simpson as the suspect.
During questioning Simpson confessed to the assault. Simpson is also waiting trial for unrelated charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure and three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
