TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Secretary of State Rex Tillerson responded this weekend to comments made on 970 WFLA's AM Tampa Bay program by Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who said Tillerson had nodded to the possibility of Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad remaining in power, giving tacit permission for Assad to use chemical weapons on his own country.
"I think that's a regrettable comment on the part of Senator Rubio", Tillerson told Face the Nation on CBS.
Last week, Rubio said on AM Tampa Bay that it was no coincidence that Assad used chemical weapons following Tillerson's comments.
"In essence (Tillerson was) saying nodding to the idea that Assad was going to stay in some capacity", Rubio said on 970 WFLA.
