Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Tampa International Airport has become the first airport in Florida to receive StormReady certification from the National Weather Service.
Tampa International had to meet some tough criteria to receive the honor. The airport had to establish a local 24 hour warning point and an emergency operations center. Other requirements included developing a hazardous weather plan and conducting periodic drills and exercises.
The NWS StormReady program is designed to recognize communities and organizations that have reached a high level of severe weather emergency preparedness.
