Lakeland,Fla. (970 WFLA)- A burn ban is issued for Polk County. Polk County Fire Rescue instituted the restriction this week after an over five-thousand-acre wildfire last month in River Ranch.
The ban means no fire permits will be issued until further notice and outdoor burning of trash and bonfires is strictly prohibited. Violators could face a 500-dollar fine or jail time. The last burn ban in Polk County was in 2014.
