St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)- St. Petersburg Police Special Enforcement Officers will be positioned at some of the cities busiest areas handing out citations to bicyclists and pedestrians who violate the law.
Officers will be stationed in the area of 4th Street North between 5th Avenue North and 22nd Avenue North, targeting people who ignore bike and pedestrian traffic rules.
Pedestrian and bicycle citations cost $62.50.
St. Petersburg Police say they have given enough of an advance notice of the special enforcement after distributing thousands of warnings and educational pamphlets over the last four months.
St. Petersburg Police officers will challenge everyone to stay safe on the roads, especially during Spring break season and the start of summer. A vibrant, bustling downtown makes the Sunshine City an ideal place to enjoy a walk or take a bike ride, but pedestrians and bicyclists have the most to lose in a crash on the road.
