Cops To Write Jaywalking Tickets

Clearwater police will soon begin cracking down on jaywalking by issuing citations for walkers and bicyclists who break the law. Officers are out stopping people on foot and on bike, breaking the law. But, those caught are only issued warnings...at least for now, along with information on how to stay safe. However, starting April second, police will begin handing out citations and a $62.50 fine. They hope it'll remind people to use common sense when crossing Clearwater’s busy roads. Police say, more than 90 pedestrians were involved in crashes last year. Of those, seven accidents were deadly.
