Tampa Police Mourns Passing of Retired Police Horse

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA)- It is with great sadness that the City of Tampa  announces the passing of retired police horse, Sequence (AKA “Justice”).  The 11-year veteran of the police department died surrounded by family and friends on March 22nd, one week before his 27th birthday.

Sequence started his journey of serving and protecting the Tampa community with Mounted Officer Timothy Pasley in 2001, and the two remained steadfast partners for 10 years.  Together, they worked many special events in and outside of Tampa:  2001 Super Bowl in Tampa, 2003 Buccaneer Super Bowl win festivities, 2005 Super Bowl (Jacksonville, FL), 2005 Search and Rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina (Gulfport, MS), 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, every Guavaween, Gasparilla Day and Knight Parade, and other events in and around the Tampa area.

Sequence was the “leader of the herd” at the barn and a favorite of all of the Mounted officers.  He and Officer Pasley participated in multiple demonstrations and trainings, which included the Florida Police and Fire Games, and the Florida State Fair Mounted Training and competitions.   No matter the event, they always returned with high honors together.  The police officer-horse duo made news headlines and were well known on social media.

Retired Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy  Daryl Temple donated Sequence to the Tampa Police Department Mounted Unit in May 2000.  Sequence retired in August 2011 at the age of 21 (with a brief return to assist with the 2012 Republican National Convention).  He went to live out his retirement with Officer Pasley who retired from the police department in January 2015.
