Hurricane Season Begins June 1st NHC is prepared

Miami, Fla.(970 WFLA)-Hurricane season starts on June 1st., and the National Hurricane Center in Miami will be using some new tools to help people in the path of a storm.

One of those tools will be a map to predict the arrival of tropical storm-force winds.   The National Hurricane Center is modifying its "cone of uncertainty", which indicates the probable path the storm will take.

Another change, forecasters will now be able to issue advisories for what they are calling "potential tropical cyclones".  Before, they had to wait until a storm was more developed before issuing warnings and a projected path.
