Winn Dixie Fuel Perks Run Dry

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Fuel Perks rewards program from Winn Dixie supermarkets is officially running dry.  But the company promises to replace it with something better.

Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Winn Dixie stores, said its customers have sent a message that they want discounts on goods and groceries, not gas.

In response to that demand, CEO Ian McLeod said Winn Dixie is joining Plenti rewards.

Plenti is a cooperative developed by American Express that includes big-name companies like Macy's, Exxon-Mobil, AT&T, and others.

Winn Dixie shoppers can earn points by buying at the supermarket, and then cashing out the points at stores of their choice.

McLeod said a big complaint about Fuel Perks was the monthly expiration of points.  Plenti points last for two years.

Typically, shoppers will earn one point for every two dollars spent at Winn Dixie.

Customers can sign up for the program starting today.

Fuel Perks will officially expire in April.
