Plane Crashes After Takeoff in Tampa

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The pilot escaped injury after a small plane lost power on takeoff from Tampa's Peter O. Knight Airport and landed in Hillsborough Bay Sunday afternoon. Tampa Police say the pilot managed to get out of the Piper 28-140 before it sank shortly after 1:30 p.m. There were no other passengers. Marine units and divers went to the scene to recover the plane from the water. The FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
