Lake Alfred, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A man is dead after trying to hold off sheriff's deputies with a gun, as they were conducting a search on a drug warrant.
Polk sheriff Grady Judd says they found a false room inside the house on Sunset Circle, and inside, 28 year old Kevin Johnson shot at them as they ordered him to put his hands up.
Deputies called in the SWAT team, negotiators tried to talk Johnson out, deputies found him dead when they blew a hole through the wall.
Johnson was wanted on a warrant for sex with a minor, deputies arrested Johnson's mother on a charge of tampering with evidence, and took 25 year old Casey Powell into custody on narcotics charges.
Arrested at 45 Sunset Circle:
* Casey E. Powell, DOB 3/19/91, of Lake Alfred - he was charged withpossession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a structure for drug use. He is being held in the Polk County Jail on $2,000 bond.
* June M. Johnson, DOB 6/26/66, of Lake Alfred - she was charged withtampering with evidence. She is being held in the Polk County Jail on $1,000 bond.
Arrested at 57 Sunset Circle:
* Michael Glass, DOB 12/31/87, of Lake Alfred - he was charged with sale ofmeth, trafficking in meth, possession of meth with intent to sell, possession of meth, possession of paraphernalia, use of a vehicle for drugs, possession of a structure for drugs. He is being held in the Polk County Jail on no bond
* Erica Barnard, DOB 10/8/89, of Lake Alfred - she was charged with possessionof meth, use of a vehicle for drugs, possession of paraphernalia. She is being held in the Polk County Jail on $2,000 bond.
After Kevin Johnson was removed from the home and detectives completed their search, they located meth, firearms (including two .22 caliber rifles, two shotguns, a revolver, and a handgun), ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
Kevin Johnson's autopsy results are complete - according to the Medical Examiner, he died as a result of a single gunshot wound, not self-inflicted.
Polk County Detectives said they had made several drug buys at the residence, which was the reason deputies were there.
The three deputies who fired their weapons are on paid administrative leave.
The investigation is ongoing.
