Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

Sarasota, Fla.(970 WFLA)-The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested two people after a traffic stop led deputies to the discovery of heroin, cocaine, and prescription pills in their car.

Patrol deputies in the area of Leonard Reid Avenue and Myrtle Street in Sarasota initiated a traffic stop in the 2100 block of 32nd Street around 6:45 p.m., after they were alerted to an erratic driver blocking the road.   

When they made contact with the occupants, 36-year-old driver Travis Vizzini and 22-year-old passenger Ashley Devine, the duo immediately exited the vehicle and claimed their erratic driving was due to the brakes not working properly. 

When deputies looked in the window, they saw several small baggies, syringe caps, and a broken crack pipe in plain view.A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing heroin, cocaine, alprazolam pills, two syringes, and another crack pipe.   Deputies also recovered a used syringe in Devine's purse.

Vizzini, of 3913 S. Shade Avenue in Sarasota, is charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Alprazolam, and Possession of Narcotics Equipment.   He is in custody  on $5,000 bond. 

Devine, of 3640 Sterling Road East in Venice, is charged with Possession of Narcotics Equipment and is also in custody on $500 bond.  Vizzini has prior arrests for Attempted Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, DUI, and numerous violations of probation.
