SWAT Standoff Over Suspect Dead

Lake Alfred, Fla. (970 WFLA)-An almost four hour police standoff in  Lake Alfred ended with a suspect dead.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says they went to a residence on Sunset Circle to serve a narcotics search warrant.

The first suspect,  25 year old Casey Powell was arrested without resistance.  The second suspect,  28 year old  Kevin Johnson, was found hiding behind a false wall in one of the bedrooms, and refused to come out.

He fired a gun at deputies, and  deputies returned fire.   Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had an active warrant for  unlawful sex with a minor, and has a lengthy criminal history.

Detectives said they had made several drug buys at the residence, which was the reason deputies were there.

The three deputies who fired their weapons are on paid administrative leave.
