Smash And Grabs Hit Hernando Parks

Brooksville, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Hernando County Sheriff's Deputies are warning people about a rash of smash and grab thefts at three county parks.

The parks targeted by the bad guys include Anderson Snow Park, Rotary Centennial Dog Park and Veterans Memorial Park.  All three of the parks are in the Spring Hill area.

Detectives say the thieves have been smashing vehicle windows and then grabbing any valuables inside. They say the burglaries are crimes of opportunity.

Deputies advise you to always lock your vehicle when you leave and never leave any valuables inside.  They also warn you not to leave firearms inside the vehicle.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis says they're investigating all of the theft cases and are using both traditional and "high-tech" methods to combat the crimes.
