Protesters Crash Bay Area Town Halls

CLERMONT, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Two Bay area congressman found themselves in the crossfire of angry constituents who crashed their public appearances Tuesday.

Lakeland Republican Dennis Ross was holding a town hall meeting in Clermont, where he faced about 200 people who crowded inside the City Center to demand answers about the future of Obamacare.

Ross tried to explain. "If you’re quiet for just three minutes, I’ll give you a sneak preview of the plan."  But Ross offered no specifics, leading to boos and yells.

Many in the group also wanted to know why President Donald Trump was talking on a phone in public at his Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach, without taking security precautions.

Ross called it a rookie mistake.  The crowd reacted by chanting "Lock Him Up! Lock Him Up!" in a similar fashion that Trump supporters yelled during rallies on the campaign trail.

While some tried to defend Ross, the crowd was overwhelming in opposition.

Meanwhile in Inverness in Citrus County, Republican Representative Daniel Webster of Winter Garden was on the defensive during a ribbon cutting at the government center.

People in that crowd demanded that Congress investigate Trump's ties to Russia.

Webster said he was there to cut the ribbon and he would "serve you in the best I possibly can."

Then Webster bolted for the door.
