Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A dump truck struck and killed a pedestrian early Monday in what Tampa Police investigate as a hit-and-run.
39 year old Stephen Waters who was walking on Columbus Drive near 53rd Street North in Tampa died after the collision at about 5:40 a.m.
A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a truck matching the description of the dump truck near 50th Street and I-4. Police say 46 year old David Yribar-Hernandez of Tampa is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash with death , and fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer.
Columbus Drive stayed closed for several hours as police worked the scene.
