Brush Fire In Polk County Prompts Evacuations

A brush fire in southeastern Polk County has prompted emergency management and the Forestry Service to evacuate nearly 1,000 homes in the Indian Lakes Estates area of Frostproof.

The fire pushed through that area near Frostproof and east to the River Ranch area along the southeastern edge of the county.

Firefighters say the fire is between 1,500 and 1,600 acres.

Fire investigators say homes are in danger and there's been property damage and the loss of some pets.
