Hillsborough County, FLA. (970 WFLA)- An FHP Trooper saw a pelican in the median of the Skyway bridge showing signs of distress. Looking closer the trooper saw that the pelican was caught in fishing line and had fishing hooks impaled in his legs.
The pelican was in the middle of the highway and posed a danger to the motoring public and himself.
Troopers Timothy Slezak and Raymona Ada picked it up from a median at the base of the bridge. FWC Officers and Road Rangers responded to the area and assisted in the safe recovery of the pelican.
The bird was taken to Owls Nest Sanctuary For Wildlife where it's expected to make a full recovery.
