Coast Guard Searching For 3 Aboard Missing Plane

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The Coast Guard is searching for three people who were aboard an aircraft that left Brooksville en route to Cedar Key.

At 5:21 p.m. Feb. 12th,  watch standers from Sector St. Petersburg received a report from the Flight Service Station Gainesville, stating a white and brown, single-engine aircraft failed to arrive in Cedar Key by noon.

A flight plan was not filed.The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center reported the last known radar contact from the aircraft, which occurred at 11:06 a.m. when the plane was approximately seven miles south of Cedar Key. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter air crew from Air Station Clearwater and a 27-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water boat crew from Station Yankeetown launched and commenced the search.

Also assisting in the search are personnel from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Levy County Fire and Rescue, and Cedar Key Fire and Rescue.
