Publix Cuts Off Free Cold Cuts

LAKELAND, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Say goodbye to that free slice at the Publix deli counter.

The store where "shopping is a pleasure" is making things less pleasurable for people buying cold cuts and lunch meat.

Brian West, a Publix spokesman, told the "Tampa Bay Times" the supermarket is trying to create a more natural exchange between deli clerks and customers.

Apparently, free slices are unnatural.

Publix used to offer the slice after showing shoppers the thickness of the cut.  Now they're cut off from the free cold cut.

The store didn't say if cost cutting affected to the cuts to free cold cuts.

If you really have to have it, Publix will give you a free sample.  But you have to ask every time.
