VIDEO: Burglars Break Into 40 Storage Units

LAKELAND, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Two burglars managed to break into 40 storage units at the Socrum Self Storage facility on U.S. Highway 98 north of Lakeland.

Surveillance video shows how they cut the fence and entered the grounds, which was well-lit.

Polk County Sheriff's investigators said it happened on Friday at 12:30 a.m.

The video showed the burglars making off with a TV, bicycles, and even a boat motor.

Bo Bovie is a customer at Socrum Self Storage.  She immediately checked to see if her unit had been burglarized, but she was relieved to find that it was still secure.

“I was thinking it would be heartbreaking to come here and find out they violated my mother’s memories,” Bovie told News Channel 8.

Bovie used a circular padlock, which is harder to defeat with bolt cutters.

The suspects appeared to be driving a 2001-2006 dark Chevrolet Avalanche with chrome trim on the wheel wells.

If you have any information about the crime, call Detective Cain with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at (863) 577-6100.
