Sarasota, Fla. (970 WFLA)-In December 2016, members of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force observed 69 year old Dannie Berry’s IP address conducting keyword searches for files related to child abuse material including child pornography. Berry is also registered as a sexual offender after pleading guilty to sexual offense charges in Jackson, Oregon in 1988.
On January 18th, a search warrant was issued for Berry’s home in the 1100 block of 40th street and electronic storage devices.
On January 20, Detectives from the Sarasota Police Department and FBI Child Exploitation Task Force executed the search warrant.
After Detectives read the search warrant to Berry outside his home, he spontaneously said “this is about child pornography.” Detectives told Berry yes and then he replied, “All we need to take is the thumb drive in the garage that has child pornography on. It is above the computer in the garage.”Detectives located the thumb drive and found numerous videos and images of child pornography.
The approximate total found on the thumb drive is 114 videos and four (4) images.Berry was arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail without incident.
He’s currently being held at jail on $200,000 bond.
