Hurricane Ian recovery efforts continue in Southwest Florida, and Gov. DeSantis was back in Lee County this morning to award $8.7 million to the region.
The governor is also promising a special legislative session in the near future that would deal with issues like property tax relief for those who saw their homes damaged or destroyed. "We may do some appropriations to help some of the impacted communities," the governor said. "The feds do stuff, but you know what, you can't just sit around and wait for them to do everything, so we're making sure that we do our part."
The governor thanked those on hand for the region's recovery efforts, and for their support in last week's election. He says he had the biggest margin any candidate's had in a long time in Lee County.
At one point, the governor appeared to have been asked about former President Donald Trump's White House candidacy. He didn't mention Trump's name. "We just finished this election. People just need to chill out on some of this stuff."
