The attorney for the family of a grandmother and toddler killed at a South Florida Publix says this is the bottom line of a lawsuit filed this week against the supermarket chain.

"They have an obligation to protect their customers and to protect their employees."

And Ben Domnick tells CBS 12 News that Publix didn't do that when a man shot to death 69-year old Litha Verone and her grandson, 23-month old Sam Verone, inside its Royal Palm Beach store in June of last year.

"We're suing to force change so that nobody else has to go through what this family ahs gone through."

He hopes the change will include uniformed security guards and weapons detectors at the front entrance.

The suit seeks damages in excess of $30,000.

Publix won't comment on pending litigation.
