VIDEO: Horticulture Teacher Sets New Record for Largest Pumpkin

A 2,560-pound pumpkin that belonged to a Minnesota horticulture teacher just set a new North American record.

This year's winner, Travis Gienger, hauled his pumpkin to the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California, where he took home the victory. Gienger also won the same event in 2020 with a 2,360-pound pumpkin.

His pumpkin has a name too! You can call it 'Maverick.'

There were about 30 pumpkin growers in attendance at the weigh-off.

Although he set the new U.S. record, the world record belongs to a 2,703-pound pumpkin from Italy. That record was established in 2021, according to Guinness World Records.
