Pet Rescues Underway in Southwest Florida

It's not just people who've been impacted by Hurricane Ian, and there've been no shortage of animal welfare groups pitching in to deliver supplies and rescue pets from damaged shelters. Suncoast Animal League Executive Director Rick Chaboudy says a rescue team brought some needed pet supplies to facilities in Hardee and Charlotte counties this week, and took charge of nearly 40 dogs and cats. "We've been able to put most of the dogs in foster homes," Chaboudy said. "and we're getting the cats ready to do the same. Some of the animals are already spayed and neutered, and after things settle down a little bit, we'll be able to put them up for adoption."

Chaboudy says he was overwhelmed by the amount of donations, things like bedding and pet food, that came in. He says he's been doing this for a lot of years, and it still brings tears to his eyes.
