Delray Beach Police Chief Russ Mager is a former Assistant Chief with the department, who took the helm after Chief Javaro Sims retired over the summer.

Mager is in his 26th year with the agency and says it's been a "fantastic ride" and that he really enjoys his job.

"You've got to have a good head on your shoulders and good personality and try to always look on the bright side. We're faced with a lot of gloom and doom so to speak with regard to the work that we do."

Chief Mager says that among his goals for the department is to jump start community engagement by getting back to things like visiting schools and reinvigorating the volunteer program. This as things return to normal post-pandemic.

"A lot of the programs got shut down if you will with regards to safety. You know dealing with the elderly, dealing with kids, dealing with community events. So, I'd really like to just kind of get back to where we were and what we did best and that's providing services to our community."
