Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end to the summer travel season.

Extra state troopers will be patrolling Florida roads this week, with millions of Floridians driving more than 50 miles as they travel to and from holiday destinations.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there were more than four thousand car crashes in the state last Labor Day weekend.

Forty-one people died and another 171 had serious bodily injuries in those accidents.

FHP Captain Peter Bergstresser says troopers will be focused on impaired and aggressive drivers over the next several days.

“We ask them to be courteous to their fellow citizens out there. Don’t speed. Be cognizant of where you are driving. Don’t cut other folks off. Just show some courtesy to other people out there on the highway, so everybody gets to where they want to go safely.”

The busiest time on the road this weekend is expected to be Thursday and Friday afternoon, as well as Tuesday morning.
