With more than 2 million Floridians voting early and by mail, there are few surprises as early results come in from around the state. Val Demings has won the primary with a massive lead over her democratic opponents as she tries to unseat incumbent Senator Marco Rubio. Demings with about 84% of the vote. The other closely watched Florida race is that for Governor. Former Governor Charlie Crist defeating rival, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried. Crist won with 60 percent of the vote over Fried.
In the race to replace Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, democratic contenders with a bit tighter of a race. Aramis Ayala wins with 45% support. Daniel Uhlfelder had 28% of the vote with Jim Lewis in 3rd place with 27% of the vote.
There's a Republican and Democratic Primary for Florida Agriculture Commissioner. In the Democratic primary, Naomi Esther Blemur wins with 50% support. Ryan Morales trailing at 30% and J.R. Gaillot with 19%. On the Republican side, Wilton Simpson defeats James Shaw by a 65% to 35% margin.
Representative Matt Gaetz is coming out on top. The three-term incumbent fended off a challenge from retired FedEx executive, Mark Lombardo, who had questioned in recent campaign ads whether Gaetz was an "informant" who led the FBI to execute a search warrant at former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Gaetz is now expected to easily win re-election in November in his district, which has not been represented by a Democrat in nearly three decades.
