Florida babysitter leaves job early, 4 year old alone

Aventura, FL - A babysitter has been charged with child neglect after leaving a 4-year-old child she was hired to watch unattended for several hours.

Aventura Police say 18-year-old Elizabeth Leon was hired to watch the child on Friday, August 5th from 1:45PM until 12AM.

However, Leon left the child alone for more than 2 hours after leaving the job early.

The mother discovered Leon left early after texting the teen at 11:14 p.m. to say she would be home by midnight.

According to police, "the defendant responded back that she was heading out because her mother paid for an Uber to take her back home and it arrived ahead of time."

Leon told the mother she locked the door and the child was asleep, then requested her payment of $168.

When the mother got home and reviewed her Ring camera, she saw Leon leaving at 9:45 p.m.

The mother confronted Leon about the video via text. Leon apologized for leaving early, and said she would lower her babysitting fee to $141.

She then offered to waive her fee if the mother didn't feel she should be paid because she left early.

Investigators contacted Leon on August 17th and informed her they'd been assigned to follow up on the case.

She was asked to meet investigators at the Aventura Police Department the next day.

Investigators received a follow up call from an attorney representing Leon who made arrangements with police for her to surrender.

On Monday, August 22nd, Leon arrived at the Aventura Police Department where she was arrested and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
