Two airport workers accused of stealing $21,000 worth of Apple products

Miami-Dade County, FL - Two cargo workers at a South Florida airport have been arrested after they allegedly stole more than $21,000 worth of Apple electronics destined for Chile.

According to Miami-Dade police, Alberto Duardo Vera and William Gonzalez Torres, two Miami International Airport cargo workers, have been arrested for stealing five MacBook Pro laptops, 30 Apple AirPods and Airpods Pro, 20 Apple iPhones, and a charging cable.

The stolen electronics were valued at $21,728.35.

Police say the two worked for Cargo Handling Airport Services, a subcontractor for Chile-based LATAM Airlines.

The suspects were arrested after a Miami-Dade police detective arrived at the LATAM cargo facility on May 19th to review CCTV footage of a theft that took place on May 1st.

In the video, the workers were filmed removing two cargo boxes from a shipping pallet, dropping them inside a rolling trash bin, and concealing the boxes with a net.

The suspects rolled the trash bin to a wall, wrapped the boxes in two large jackets, and left out a side door with the boxes under their arms.

The stolen electronics, valued at over $15,000, were owned by DB Schenker, a logistics company, and were destined for the company’s offices in Chile.

The company reported nearly $6,000 worth of additional Apple products stolen from the shipping pallet.

Both suspects face charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
