A South Florida judge went before the state Supreme Court on Tuesday, after a judicial watchdog group found that she missed more time behind the bench than what is "reasonably expected" of a trial judge.

"Judge Bryson...for your violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct, you are hereby publicly reprimanded."

Marni Bryson became just the second Palm Beach County judge to be reprimanded by the state's highest court.

The complaint came from the Judicial Qualifications Commission.

Chief Justice Charles Canady told Judge Bryson that she will have to pay a fine of $37,500 and serve a ten-day suspension without pay, point out that the violations came over a series of years.

The Commission found that she either showed up late for work, left early or didn't go to work at all too many times between 2016 and 2019.

Canady said that one purpose of the reprimand is to send a message.

"In this forum, we assure the public that we take misconduct by a judge very seriously and we will not hesitate to punish judges in a most public way."

He also warned Bryson that any future misconduct will be treated "far more harshly."
