MIAMI, FL - An employee of a South Florida supermarket has been arrested after he allegedly placed his cell phone near a toilet to record a woman he escorted to the store's private bathroom.
Police were called to the Presidente Supermarket in Miami on Thursday after a female victim told police that she asked an employee, identified as 42-year-old Ranulfo Villeda, if she could use the store’s private bathroom.
Villeda escorted the woman to the bathroom, where he told her he had to move boxes out of the restroom before she could use it.
According to investigators, Villeda placed his phone inside a box with a hole in it, positioned the box facing the toilet seat, then left the phone recording as he exited the restroom.
The victim told police she entered the bathroom and saw a cell phone camera lens inside a hole in the box.
She removed the cell phone from the box, exited the bathroom, returned the phone to Villeda, and called police.
Local 10 News reports that when questioned where his cell phone was, Villeda told police that “I turned it off,” “I no longer have it,” I threw it out on the street, and “I put it away.”
Villeda faces one count of video voyeurism.
The manager of Presidente Supermarket said Villeda is no longer employed there.
