A new song for Florida and our governor is at the center of a possible elections violation.

It may have sounded like an April Fools prank to some when news broke on April 1 that Lynyrd Skynyrd's Johnny Van Zant and his brother Donnie, as the duo Van Zant," had recorded a song in honor of Governor Ron DeSantis.

"Sweet Florida" includes lines like "he stands up for what he believes" and "leave our Gov alone." Also "Don't come down here trying to change things, we're doing alright in the Sunshine State."

But Democrat opposition research group American Bridge 21st Century has filed a complaint with the Florida Elections Commission, accusing DeSantis of violating state law by promoting the song at a bill-signing event.

They claim he was using his "official authority or influence" to further his re-election campaign.

Items bearing the "Sweet Florida" title are now for sale on the governor's campaign site, along with the music video.
