Spring Training Was A "Big Let Down" For Businesses In Florida

Spring Training this year was more of a bust than a boom for local businesses.

The owner of the Stadium Grill, across from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, says having about half the games as usual meant they had about half the amount of people and he called it a "big letdown."

Dennis Witkowski says they would typically have people coming from the Midwest to watch their St. Louis Cardinals, but because of the Major League Baseball lockdown, most people who would usually fly down here didn't bother. There was a lot of uncertainty as to whether there would even be a Spring Training.

An employee at nearby Jumby Bay Island Grill also said they didn't get the business they expected.

And the general manager of a hotel in Juno Beach says 80 percent of baseball fans who had reservations wound up cancelling.
