Governor DeSantis Signs High School Financial Literacy Class Bill Into Law

One day after signing legislation to increase teachers' pay in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has put his signature to a bill that will require high school students to earn one-half credit in personal financial literacy to graduate. Appearing at a charter school in Wesley Chapel, the governor says this requirement will affect the 2023-2024 school year.

"This will provide a foundation for students to learn the basics of money management--understanding debt--understanding how to balance a checkbook, and the fundamentals of investing," the governor said.

The governor says this will give students critical knowledge about personal finance that they can take advantage of regardless of their career path.
