It is not only opening weekend at Adventure Island in Tampa, where you can see the progress on the two new slides, but tons of other things are happening in Tampa Bay this weekend. The new slides won't be open this weekend, but they're expected to open VERY soon.
Gasparilla Festival of the Arts is also happening this weekend. This will be both Saturday & Sunday at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. The prize for the Best in Show this year has raised and is at $15,000. This festival will feature the work of more than 200 fine art and fine craft artists.
Opening reception for an art show 'Trashed' is kicking off this weekend, where 85 percent of the materials have been found or otherwise set aside to be “Trashed.”
The show is meant to shed light on what we toss aside and what ends up in landfills and waterways.
Remains on display through April 23. Free. 6-9 p.m. Friday. Atelier de SoSi, 2380 Sixth Ave S, St. Petersburg.
It's also, of course, Strawberry Festival weekend. Head down to Plant City for great food, music, and other entertainment. A great family-friendly, alcohol-free event filled with amazing sweet treats.
The 'Empty Bowls' event will be held at the Clay Center of St. Petersburg this weekend and will combine art, food, and, more importantly, helping end homelessness.
Grab yourself a hand-crafted bowl and fill it up with soup made from Tampa Bay area top chefs. This will be on Saturday, March 5th, from 11 am to 3 pm. Tickets are $25, and the event is meant to help uplift struggling or homeless families in our area.
100% of proceeds will go to St. Vincent de Paul CARES, a local non-profit dedicated to ending homelessness.
