Police Union: Cop Accused Of Battering Suspect Was "Performing His Duty"

The union representing a West Palm Beach Police officer charged with battery against a suspect says the cop was just doing his job.

34-year old Officer Nicholas Lordi is accused of punching 65-year old John Monroque several times, breaking his nose and holding his knee on the man's head while he was handcuffed for about 14 seconds.

This during an arrest attempt for trespassing at a grocery store in 2019.

In a statement, Fraternal Order of Police in West Palm Beach President Adam Myers says force was necessary because Monroque was reaching for another officers' gun. He goes on to state that police officers are trained if someone tries to take your gun, they are going to kill you, referring to Monroque as a "violent felon."

But Monroque's attorney denies the claims made by Myers, based on the evidence available.

"Those statements that he grabbed for the gun, that he was attacking the officers were untrue based on the video and contradicted by the video."

Sue-Ann Robinson wants the other officer charged as well, but there's no indication that he is under investigation.

Myers believes that the West Palm Beach Police Chief was given a "doctored video" of the incident, which led him to ask the FDLE for an investigation.
