Charges against a Florida teacher who was arrested and accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old student have been dropped.
Prosectors dropped charges against 27-year-old Aaron Hamid, a former teacher at John A. Ferguson High School, due to a lack of evidence.
Hamid, who was fired from the school in 2021, was arrested on November 8th, 2021 and charged with three felony counts, including offenses against students by authority figures and unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor.
An investigation began in October 2021 after Hamid was accused of inappropriate behavior with a student from his advanced placement history class.
According to police, Hamid and his student began communicating using the Remind App Communication platform and exchanged phone numbers.
The student told police that sexual activity took place in Hamid's car or at his Cutler Bay home while he was still her teacher.
Hamid's arrest report states that the student’s friend notified a school staff member that an inappropriate relationship was going on and police were then contacted.
The victim stated that Hamid contacted her the morning that the incident was reported, and she deleted content that could be incriminating information from her phone.
