High School Teacher Dies After Hit By Car in School Parking Lot

UPDATE: The Pasco School District says Ciara McKeon died Friday. Anclote High Principal Vanessa Moon urged parents and students to remember "the amazing person that coach McKeon was." McKeon passed away Friday at Tampa General Hospital. Her family said she was kept on life support to allow for organ donation. Parents and community members are planning to bring flowers and cards Saturday morning for a memorial at the Anclote High campus sign, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

 

ANCLOTE -- A teacher at Anclote High School was rushed to Tampa General Hospital Thursday morning, after being struck in the parking lot before classes began.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a 24-year-old man driving an SUV failed to notice a pedestrian arouind 6:50 a.m. The school resources officer, staff and students came to assist. A 28-year-old teacher identified as Ciara McKeon was taken to Tampa General in critical condition.

A statement by the Pasco School District says her condition is serious but "we have reason to be hopeful for her recovery."

McKeon has been a physical education teacher at Anclote for two years and is also the girls' tennis coach.

The school district's crisis team arrived soon after the crash to help students and staff.
