A healthcare executive from South Florida becomes a member of Congress when she takes the oath of office at the Capitol on Tuesday.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won a special election last week to serve out the remaining year of the late Alcee Hastings' term in District 20. That covers portions of Palm Beach County and Broward.
She will be the first Haitian American Democrat in Congress, after defeating Republican Jason Mariner in the Democrat-heavy district.
