As classes resume at schools across South Florida Monday, administrators have announced new COVID restrictions to combat the omicron variant surging across the state.
In Miami-Dade, all adults who enter a school building must be masked. Student's are not required to wear masks, but are encouraged to do so. The Miami-Dade school system gave out upwards of 10,000 free at-home test kits for employees and their families.
At Broward County schools, face coverings are mandatory for all vendors and visitors; however masks are optional for teachers and staff.
The Archdiocese of Miami said masks will be a must for students and employees at all catholic schools in the area.
The rule will require masks for employees and students over the age of two, regardless of vaccination status or parental request to waive the requirement.
The mask opt-out options the Archdiocese put in place based on vaccination status or parental request/consent have been suspended through Friday, January 21.
Officials at Nova Southeastern University confirmed Sunday everyone who sets foot on campus will be required to wear a mask.
Officials confirmed the mask mandate will be enforced, not just at indoor facilities, but outdoor locations as well, regardless of vaccination status.
The university is offering a combination of in-person, online and hybrid classes during the spring semester.
