Florida cop charged with DUI after cold beer found in truck’s cup holder

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Naples police officer on a charge of suspected drunk driving after finding the officer passed out with a cold can of Bud Light in his truck’s cup holder.

Joseph Craig has been placed on administrative leave by the Naples Police Department following Saturday’s early morning arrest.

Craig was booked into the Lee County jail at 6:01AM Saturday for suspected drunk driving. He was released at 10:48AM on $1,000 bond.

According to authorities, deputies responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Estero found Craig passed out in the driver’s seat of his truck.

As backup arrived on scene, Craig awoke and attempted to exit the vehicle but was unable to stand without swaying. Craig’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and deputies detected a strong scent of alcohol on his breath.

Craig said he had “no clue” where he was, and had “no business in Lee County.”

Upon questioning, Craig told deputies the last thing he remembered was playing golf then driving home, but he didn’t remember making it home.

Craig then asked deputies to search his truck for a device to check his blood sugar.

No device was found, but deputies did find a cold can of Bud Light in the truck’s cup holder.

Paramedics checked Craig’s blood sugar at the scene, but the test results came back normal.

Craig refused to perform field sobriety tests and submit to a breath sample. He was arrested and charged with DUI.
