A preventive monoclonal antibody treatment is now available in Florida.

A new preventative monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-19 is being made available in Florida for at risk populations. Speaking at Ocala Regional Medical Center Friday Governor Ron DeSantis said the new product-Evusheld- is very promising-

"This is a long-lasting, long-acting monoclonal therapy," Governor DeSantis said, "and in the clinical trials it reduced the risk of developing COVID in the person by 77-percent."

The governor says the Evusheld treatment would be for those 12 and older who are immunocompromised such as transplant patients or have long-term adverse reactions to vaccines. He says initially 3100 doses will be given to hospitals and clinics that are already administering monoclonal treatments. You can go to FloridaHealthCovid19.gov to find a location near you.

Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis is trying to keep the lid on any hysteria in Florida concerning the omicron variant of COVID. The governor says if you take a look at where the strain first appeared--

"In South Africa what you've seen is dramatically lower hospitalizations as a result of omicron than what you had with the delta variant in South Africa."

The governor says the Department of Health will be closely monitoring the latest variant but schools and businesses in Florida will remain open.
