Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody gathered with Florida Highway Patrol and local law enforcement in Orlando Monday to deliver a clear message to anyone thinking about driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol over the holidays.
"We will seek you out," Moody said. "You will be punished if you drink and drive."
40-percent of traffic-related deaths during Christmas and New Year's involve drunk drivers. Moody says they're talking about real people and real lives lost- like the 16 year old son of Jaqueline Stroz. Mikey Stroz- a student at Timber Creek High School- was killed by a drunk driver in a head-on collision over the summer while the family was traveling in Alabama.
"That single decision has destroyed our lives forever," Stroz said, "and forced our family, friends and all of our Central Florida community to grieve the unimaginable nightmare."
Moody says 'drive sober or get pulled over.' She says residents can help keep the roads safe by reporting reckless driving when you see it by calling *FHP. Law enforcement agencies are increasing patrols and DUI checkpoints over the holidays.
