Today's opening statements at Dayonte Resiles' murder trial a lot more orderly than a 2016 hearing in the case where Resiles was able to escape his shackles bolt from a Broward courtroom and go on the run for 6 days. Today, the prosecution appealing to the jury for honesty.
"Hard as it may be, you reach a verdict that speaks the truth," Prosecutor Maria Schneider said.
Defense attorney Michael Orlando got down to evidence, creating for the jury the picture of a suspect.
In his opening statement, Orlando said, "The person that killed Jill Su was a person who had been in this house before, that was familiar with the layout."
Prosecutors are seeking the death penality in the fatal stabbing of Jill Halliburton Su who was found dead in the bathtub of her Davie home back in 2014. Detectives believe she may have interrupted a potential burglary.
